Terry Oldfield

Bio

Terry Oldfield is a composer, flautist and author whose life and work have unfolded through a deepening relationship with listening — first to sound, and then to the silence beneath it.

Over more than four decades, he has released numerous albums of meditative flute music and contemplative soundscapes, creating music that invites stillness, reflection and presence. His compositions have been used internationally for meditation, yoga, relaxation and inner enquiry, and his work for film and television reflects the same spacious, attentive approach to sound.

What began as a musical path gradually became an inward journey. The exploration of tone, breath and melody opened into a deeper enquiry into awareness itself — into the quiet space from which music arises and returns.

In recent years, Terry has brought this same contemplative attention to writing. His books explore silence, creativity and the end of seeking, tracing the subtle movement from expression into stillness. Rather than offering techniques or conclusions, his work points gently toward direct experience — toward the simplicity that remains when striving falls away.

He lives and works in Australia, continuing to compose, write and explore the meeting place of music and silence.
